L' Patron: Got Patron in my Cup, If You Wanna Come Get (Tacos)

Don't be fooled by the OG categorization - although the food itself is classic, the inside is as hip as they make them - colorful with interesting music choices.

While waiting for our Guest Judge we people watched the plethora of hipsters and scratched our head over what radio station could possibly be playing.

Los Gamas Tortilleria: Your (Tacos) are Everywhere, Screaming Infidelities

Los Gamas Tortilleria, or just Los Gamas, is a little shop in Logan Square. It's a bit confusing when you first walk in - you order at one counter and pay at another and literally everything is in Spanish. I always think my Spanish is solid but then get stage fright whenever I actually want to use it; so, it took me a few minutes to adjust, but, by then, we had already stumbled our way in English through our order and sat down.

Birrieria Zaragoza: (Goats) in the Shell

All the way off the orange line is this little spot called Birrieria Zaragoza. It's a small place that looks like you'd go up to the counter to order, but if you sit, a waitress will take your order. I immediately like the vibe. It's cozy, there was fun music playing, the staff was nice and helpful, and the food came wicked fast.

CLOSED - Rub's Backcountry Smokehouse: I've Got (Tacos) in Low Places

Okay, first off, I know it's quite the trek to Rogers Park from say.... ANYWHERE in the city. I say that having lived there for 5 years and Rub's isn't even off the Red Line. It's WEST of the Rogers Park Metra station - like at least a 10 minute walk west.

Jarabe Mexican Street Food: (Are Their Tacos) After Breakfast?

It's a tiny place, only a few tables, but I like the bright colors. This taco place is known for it's breakfast tacos! Which is exciting. I love me a good breakfast taco. Currently I get mine at Taco Bell (Hello, Breakfast Quesalupa) however, it might be nice to get one that was less processed. Thrillist recommended the Machacha Breakfast Taco (eggs, machacha beef pickled jalapenos, cilantro avocado, queso fresco) so I ordered that one, even though the first breakfast taco on the menu (chorizo, potatoes, queso fresco, pico de gallo) looked more appealing to me. This was my one and only mistake... and it was a bit of a big one.

CLOSED - Cookies & Carnitas: thank u, next

... I don't like giving bad reviews. But...  I just wasn't impressed with Cookies and Carnitas. And I REALLY wanted to be. Edgewater is my old stomping grounds. I would pass Cookies and Carnitas all the time and was intrigued and always wanted to check it out. The sign outside says they have tacos, cookies, burgers, pizza... how is that not fascinating? It follows no pattern and who doesn't love a good juxtaposition?

Big & Littles: (Taco-)Hunting, Fishing, Loving Every Day

The tuna poke taco was the one Thrillist recommended and I will get to that in a minute, because we ordered a few more that I want to get out of the way. They were v. good. Well seasoned. Tasty. Worth a trip, however after the stellar line up of taco places we’ve had thus far, Big & Littles non-fish tacos don't stand out.

The fish tacos, though….Holy crap.
