Top 10 Taco Spots in Chicago

There is so much you can DO with tacos that the possibilities are endless. The only question remains, which are the best? Over the course of 2016, fellow taco connoisseur and ride-or-die babe, Sara Seibt, and I decided to celebrate Taco Tuesday every single Tuesday. We tried 52 different places exactly and have compiled for you what we thought were the very best the city has to offer.

Birrieria Zaragoza: (Goats) in the Shell

All the way off the orange line is this little spot called Birrieria Zaragoza. It's a small place that looks like you'd go up to the counter to order, but if you sit, a waitress will take your order. I immediately like the vibe. It's cozy, there was fun music playing, the staff was nice and helpful, and the food came wicked fast.

Broken English Taco Pub: I Get (Tacos) With a Little Help From My Friends

We got the steak tacos and there was a very... Mongolian Beef vibe to the tacos. Chinese-Mexican fusion maybe? I don't know. But it was good, I was ultimately satisfied. And surprised too, because this place definitely aims to be cool, however they don't deviate from the standard taco formula, which I appreciate.

It's a tiny place, only a few tables, but I like the bright colors. This taco place is known for it's breakfast tacos! Which is exciting. I love me a good breakfast taco. Thrillist recommended the Machacha Breakfast Taco (eggs, machacha beef pickled jalapenos, cilantro avocado, queso fresco) so I ordered that one, even though the first breakfast taco on the menu (chorizo, potatoes, queso fresco, pico de gallo) looked more appealing to me. This was my one and only mistake... and it was a bit of a big one.

Madison Tavern: Can't Stop the (Tacos)

Now if you are a taco aficionado like myself, you know that the Loop is a taco dead zone. So we were desperately looking for a place that just served tacos. And just across the street from Habanero there is a bar that just opened recently that is popular with the happy hour commuter crowd - Madison Tavern.

So, in we went for their tacos to consume as fast as we possibly could so I could get back to work. And surprisingly.... they were really good!

CLOSED - Bullhead Cantina: Like a Bull in a China Shop

Bullhead Cantina felt like an oasis when we walked in to it's dark confines - it was a warm contrast to the frigid temperatures outside. Additionally, they actually had a Taco Tuesday special! (Seriously, when we started this in November, this was the first place to actually have a Taco Tuesday special. I KNOW! It's like these taco places don't understand how special Tuesdays are.)
